• I Fell Yesterday: This is what happened.

“The wise are patient; they will be honored if they ignore insults.” Proverbs 19:11 (NCV) The package wasn’t delivered yesterday. I went to the mailbox at 3:15 pm and discovered mail had been delivered, but not the box.  I called the post office, no answer. I quickly decided this was not a battle to be fought.  The box wasn’t delivered; I wanted it.  I didn’t even know what was in it as my daughter and I had recently made several online purchases.  So, at 3:40 pm, I headed to the post office.  I gave the clerk my slip, he brought back a large box with sticky stuff all over it.…

  • I Fell Yesterday

“We all make many mistakes.  If people never said anything wrong, they would be perfect and able to control their entire selves, too.” James 3: 2 (NCV)   Lord knows, I’m not perfect. I slipped and fell yesterday.  Not in the physical sense, but I’m not sure what sense it was.  The more I think about it, I slipped into nonsense.  This is what happened.  The day started out beautifully.  I sipped on Pu-Erh tea, read devotionals on the front porch.  My daughter, Angel, joined me before she started working at the dining room table.  My husband, Larry, had gone to mow a lawn.  Rise, our dog was outside.  Perfect…

  • Update: God is so Good and God’s Grace

“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” Psalm 90:14 (NIV) Just want to share an update about my brother, Billy aka Gum.  He was released from the hospital last week and is doing well.  In fact, I talked to him yesterday morning and he was his usual positive self.  In the midst of talking he asked, “Are you outside?”  I said, “Yes, why?”  He said, “I can hear the birds singing in the background.”  Now, we have lived in a rural area since 1998 and I guess I take the sound of nature, birds, crickets, owls,…

  • Update: Prayers of Healing for my brother, Gum

“A good person gives life to others; the wise person teaches others how to live.” Proverbs 11:30 (NCV)   Talking to Billy yesterday gave me a renewed appreciation for life and helped me put things in perspective.  First, I must share he was in good spirits.  He confirmed his surgery went well. Then, he went on to share his thoughts about his surgery and about life. He said, during surgery, they removed a toe from his left foot and a toe from his right foot.  He candidly said, he was hoping it would only be the toe from his left foot so he could continue to drive, but it didn’t…

  • Prayers of Healing for my brother, Gum

“Is there anything too hard for the Lord? No!” (Genesis 18:14) “   Today, I was reminded that there are people with health issues not related to the Coronavirus.  My brother, William Chever, Jr. aka Billy, aka, Gum, called me this morning.  I have to say that my brother is the most beautiful soul I know.  He started the conversation with such a light note it gave me a gut-wrenching belly laugh.  His words are always so life affirming, joyful and positive that they fill up all my thirsty gaps.  Well, after placing such a warm feeling in my heart, he told me he was in the hospital.  He had…

  • Laughter in the Midst of a Storm

“Then we were filled with laughter, and we sang happy songs.  Then the other nations said, “The Lord has done great things for them“. The Lord has done great things for us, and we are very glad.” Psalm 126: 2 – 3 (NCV)   Sometimes, it feels good to laugh in the midst of a storm.  Right now, it seems as if there is a lot going on that may make us want to cry more than laugh.  But at times like this, I feel better when I look for things to laugh about or at least not take so seriously.  Well, this issue of no toilet paper is one…

  • In the Shadow of the Almighty

…” Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness…Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you…. If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.  For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go.” (Psalm 91: 5 – 7; 9 – 11 NLT)   The Bible is very real to me.  Whenever I read it, I am always looking for ways to apply what I read to everyday life. I want to live a healthy,…

  • Tribute to “G”

“The command says, “Honor your father and your mother.” This is the first command that has a promise with it… “Then everything will be well with you, and you will have a long life on earth.” Ephesians 6: 2-3 (NCV)   Today, March 5, 2020, marks the fifteen anniversary of my dad, William L. Chever’s,  transition.  I talk about mom a lot in my blogs; but, not so much about dad.  Well, today, I think it’s time.   As I think about the man who raised me and my siblings, I realize how blessed we were to have such a strong, male force in our lives. Like I’ve mentioned before, dad…

  • Who is Really in Charge?

“Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisors” Proverbs 11:14 (NLT) Today, February 17 is President’s Day and a reminder, to me, that I should pray for people in office. It is also a reminder that the person in office is human and not God.  I used to stress over the decisions made by those in office and at times I still do. That’s because many times it seems as decisions are made for the elite few instead of for all of us.  Then to calm myself, I return to my roots which are grounded in church.  I remember no matter how much it appears…

  • Forgiving is Not Enough

“The Lord says, “Forget what happened before, and do not think about the past.  Look at the new thing I am going to do. It is already happening. Don’t you see it? I will make a road in the desert and rivers in the dry land.” Isaiah 43:18 – 19 (NCV)   I forgive easily; myself and others.  However, lately God has whispered, “just forgiving is not enough if I want to flourish in every area of my life.” If I want to see the new thing He is going to do, I must allow Him to make rivers in all my dry places.  So, a few days ago while…
